Main Article Content
Abstract
Childhood adversity significantly impacts the psychological and emotional development of children. Cultural differences in Nigeria profoundly affect the perception and management of these difficulties. This paper offers a comprehensive analysis of the cultural complexities related to childhood adversity in Nigeria, emphasising the enhancement of culturally sensitive therapy strategies. The essential elements of culturally sensitive practice, such as comprehension of traditional practices and incorporation of community support structures, are examined. This article emphasises the necessity for customised counselling methods that recognise and integrate Nigeria's distinct cultural contexts to improve the mental health and well-being of children. Recommendations for further study and practical initiatives for providing culturally sensitive counselling services in Nigeria are presented.
